2010 season is off to a great start
Posted On: Jun 26 2010 by Tuff Flaharty

Our summer season is off to a great start. We have already had a chance to meet some truly wonderful and interesting guests and we can't wait to meet the rest.

Almost all of our staff from last year has returned and they are ready for fun! Johnson and Jesse sre in the kitchen to keep our tastebuds happy. Pad, Matt and Anna are sharing their wrangler duties with our newest cowboy, Curtis. Our fishing guide, Nick, is finding all the best places for fly casting and Megan is still busy doing anything and everything to to make the operation run smoothly.

This past week we had a ranchful of guests and even found time to throw in a wedding midway through the week. We are looking forward to Cody's July 4th celebration and the Cody Stampede Rodeo.

There are still cabins available here and there throughout July and August. Give us a call if you would like to embrace the ranch lifestyle this summer.

Fall Greetings

The summer of 2009 is behind us now and we have already had a couple of really cold streaks and a nice Indian summer effect in between.  The summer at the Ranch was as usual, a lot of fun.  We did not have the same level of guests as previous years and the staffing was a little lighter than usual, but it will rank as one of the most memorable.  The family took advantage of some of the lighter weeks and did some nice back country riding.  The weather at the Ranch was unusually mild and we were able to get some very good riding, hiking and other outdoor activities like the Weds softball game.  The River rafting was great as we were able to stay up much longer than usual and the lower rides had plenty of water for some good floats.  The Rodeo was good all summer long and it looks like Paddy will be riding bulls next summer as he is planning on riding this year in college.  It is rumored that Matthew is also going down this path.  Tara is in San Diego for the winter and as usual I will be travelling around between the Ranch, my Dad’s Ranch, Colorado and Dallas.

We had a change in the kitchen this past summer with Cary staying in South Carolina to open a new restaurant.  One of Cary’s good friends, Johnson Dietz came on as the Executive Chef and delighted all with his excellent cuisine.  Johnson’s wife, Megan came along and entertained all at the bar nightly and helped out during the day as the Concierge and Guest Services Manager.   The normal cohorts were all there and will return next year for another fantastic summer at the UXU.

The reservations are coming in for 2010 already and it looks to be a very good year with a lot of guests in all weeks.  Please let us know if you would like make a reservation.

It's that time of year again!
Posted On: May 07 2009 by Tara Flaharty

The snow is melting off of Clayton's Ridge.  The valley is filled with the sounds of nickering horses and chopping wood.  It's time to clear the trails, train the ponies, work on the cabins, and prepare for another adventure filled summer at the uXu!

We have so many exciting plans to make this summer better than ever! From the cabins to the menu to the activities, we're upgrading wherever possible!

As per usual, we're taking some time at the begining of this season to renovate & update the cabins and the main lodge.  In addition, we're looking into updating some of the bathrooms, possibly putting a whirlpool jacuzzi into our honeymoon suite, and maybe even adding a new cabin to the Eastern side of the property!

In the dining room, our wine list continues to grow and improve (thank you all for the comments and suggestions... keep them coming!) and, due to tremendous popularity last year, we'll continue to offer "Tuff's Wine of the Day" pairing at each dinner.  In addition, we've hired a new head chef and kitchen staff to lead us into this next season (details to follow).  We also been looking at some additional fish items for the menu, especially after the popularity of the fresh Tuna and Salmon we found last year.  And, as always, we continue to try new sauces, reductions, and vegetable and pasta pairings for the already delicious main courses.

On the horse front, we also have some exciting new news: we've gone almost completely to ranch owned horses.  Tuff has been intent on purchasing, training, and integrating animals into our herd that otherwise would have been left neglected and ignored. Our amazingly patient wrangler staff has been returning year after year to help these animals become amazing ranch members. We're very happy to say that they'll provide most of the companions to our guests this year.

We'll also be offering lots of new specials this year! We have some discounts for returning guests and referals, specials weeks, and, of course, adults-only September and "A Week at a Dude-less Ranch" (our women's only week).  In addition, we'll be promoting our local outfitter, JJ, by offering package deals for those of you that would like to try an overnight or 3-night pack trip!*

Some things never change though.  Tuff, Heidi, Ray (Curly), Tara, Pad, Matt, and Anna will all be returning this year along with our western singer, Tony, and cowboy entertainment trio, Jo, Bo & Phil.  The food remains delicious, the staff attentive and courteous, and as always, the western hospitality prevails.  We look forward to seeing you all again this year!

Happy Trails!

Friends and Loved Ones

In an effort to allow all of our friends from the ranch to reminisce on good times and fun memories, we've created a Facebook group site and a MySpace group site.  It's completely open to all employees and guests to post photos and blog about your experiences.  This is also a great resource for anyone wishing to get a different perspective on the ranch and to meet some of our staff.  The groups are each titled uXu Ranch and we'd love to see you there!

Also, for the coming 80th anniversary season of the ranch, we'll be celebrating with festivities for everyone and discounts for our returning customers.  After such a great response this year, we've decided to continue the Kobe Beef Filet as an entree one night and obviously will continue with our famous wild game meals throughout the week, including Elk tenderloin night.  This year we'll also be incorporating some new touches to your stay including champagne at check-in, a momosa morning each week, and a number of delicious and cutting edge wines with Tuff's wine of the day special each evening.  In celebration of this 80th season, we'll be offering a 10% discount to our returning guests, subject to availability, and a 5% additional discount for any booked referal.

Thanks for checking in with us and have a wonderful Holiday Season!
